- Visual and Physical Inspection: Conducting thorough visual inspections of materials and products to identify surface defects, imperfections, or incorrect assembly.
- Precision Measurement: Utilizing a range of precision measuring tools and equipment, such as calipers, micrometers, specialized gauges, tape measures, voltmeters, and sophisticated 3D scanners, to accurately verify dimensions, tolerances, and functional performance against engineering drawings, blueprints, or specification sheets.
- Operational Checks: Operating specialized testing machinery or performing functional tests to ensure products perform as intended under specified conditions. This may involve stress, pressure, electrical, or thermal testing, depending on the industry.
- Sampling and Lot Inspection: Selecting and inspecting representative samples from production lots based on statistical quality control methods to determine the quality of the entire batch.
- Data Collection and Recording: Meticulously recording all test data, measurement results, and observation findings, whether the
- Report Generation: Creating detailed Quality Control (QC) reports, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and Certificates of Conformance (CoCs), ensuring all documentation is accurate, complete, and fully compliant with internal and regulatory standards.
- Record Keeping: Maintaining organized and accessible archives of all inspection records and quality documentation for audit and historical reference purposes
- Non-Conformance Identification: Clearly and unambiguously identifying defects, deviations, and bottlenecks in the production process that lead to quality issues.
- Corrective Action Initiation: Promptly communicating defects and non-conforming issues to immediate supervisors and collaborating directly with production, engineering, and manufacturing teams to initiate and track Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
- Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Assisting or leading efforts to perform preliminary root cause analysis to determine why a defect occurred, thereby facilitating sustainable quality improvement.
- Standard and Regulation Adherence: Ensuring that all inspection procedures, testing methods, and products conform to relevant industry standards (e.g., ISO, ANSI), safety regulations, and legal requirements.
- Equipment Calibration: Regularly cleaning, maintaining, and ensuring the proper calibration of all inspection and measurement tools to guarantee the accuracy and reliability of all quality checks. Tracking calibration schedules and flagging any discrepancies.
- Attention to Detail: An extremely high degree of focus is mandatory to spot subtle flaws or minute deviations from specifications that could compromise product quality or safety.
- Technical Proficiency with Measuring Tools: Expertise in the setup, use, and interpretation of results from precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges, CMMs/scanners).
- Blueprint and Specification Reading: The ability to accurately read, interpret, and understand complex engineering blueprints, technical drawings, and product specification sheets.
- Communication: Strong written communication skills are essential for documenting results and generating formal reports. Excellent verbal communication is needed to clearly and diplomatically report defects and coordinate corrective actions with diverse teams.
- Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills: The ability to logically analyze defect patterns, utilize critical thinking to perform root cause analysis, and contribute to resolving manufacturing issues.
- Foundational Education: A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is typically required. Vocational training or an Associate’s Degree in a technical field (e.g., Manufacturing Technology, Quality Assurance) is often preferred.
- Relevant Experience: Prior professional experience in a manufacturing environment, production floor, or specifically in a Quality Assurance (QA) or Quality Control (QC) role is highly valued. Familiarity with specific industry quality standards is a significant asset.
