Job Description

- Review blueprints, drawings, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of part/product, sequence of operations and/or set up requirements.
- Identify, produce and gauge a variety of straight and taper threads, including Acme and buttress.
- Measure, mark and otherwise indicate the dimensions and reference points on the part or material to be used as guides for subsequent machining.
- Select, align and secure the holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on machines to include mills, lathes and grinders.
- Calculate and set controls to regulate various machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow and depth and angle of cut.
- Start and observe machine operation to detect any malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust the machine controls or control media as necessary.
- Verify conformance of finished part to ensure that it meets specifications.
- Confer with production personnel, engineers or others to resolve machining or assembly issues.
- Perform daily maintenance duties and/or notify supervisor of any equipment-related issues that may require attention.
- Maintain clean and orderly work area.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Requires a one-year certificate from a college or technical school with a minimum of three (3) years running Weiler machines; minimum of five (5) years work experience in lieu of certificate running Weiler machines is acceptable.
- Must be able to accurately program and set up machine tools within company operating system.
- Must have API oilfield tapered threading experience (Buttress, IF, 8 round…etc.) as well as experience cutting Acme, Stub Acme, and other straight and tapered threads.
- Ability to work under a minimum of supervision. Ability to read and understand engineering drawings as they pertain to machining of inflatable packers or related downhole tools.
- Must have own tools adequate to perform job. Must have proven past knowledge of machines.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write and/or complete routine reports.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as angles, lengths, diameters in decimals and fractions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
