Job Description

- Located in Chicago, Illinois
- Implement and maintain food safety programs including HACCP, GMPs, SSOPs, and allergen control.
- Ensure compliance with FDA, USDA (if applicable), and local regulatory requirements.
- Conduct routine inspections and audits of production areas.
- Maintain documentation for audits and regulatory inspections
- Monitor product quality throughout production (mixing, baking, cooling, packaging).
- Perform sensory and physical evaluations (e.g., texture, color, weight, taste).
- Verify labeling accuracy, including allergen declarations and coding.
- Investigate and document product deviations and non-conformances
- Work closely with production teams to ensure adherence to quality and food safety standards.
- Provide real-time feedback on quality issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Approve start-ups and changeovers on production lines.
- Conduct environmental monitoring and product sampling.
- Coordinate microbiological and chemical testing as needed.
- Calibrate and verify measurement and testing equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, and corrective actions.
- Prepare reports on quality metrics, trends, and audit findings.
- Support traceability and recall procedures if necessary.
- Train employees on food safety, hygiene, and quality procedures.
- Reinforce proper sanitation and personal hygiene practices.
- Assist in onboarding new staff regarding FSQA policies.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce waste, and enhance product consistency.
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) programs.
- Support implementation of new products and process changes
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
- 1–3+ years of experience in food manufacturing, preferably in bakery or ready-to-eat products.
- Experience with HACCP and food safety systems required.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced production environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and quality systems.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Bilingual required: fluent in English and Spanish (spoken and written).
