Job Description
- $120,000 – $135,000 annually, up to 10% bonus

- Located in Carol Stream, Illinois
- Lead the design, optimization, and commercialization of complex formulations.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including formulations, specifications, and project deliverables.
- Serve as the technical owner and primary R&D contact for assigned key customer accounts.
- Support formulation scale-up activities in collaboration with the R&D sample lab, manufacturing, operations, and quality teams.
- Apply analytical, stoichiometric, and scale-up principles to solve formulation challenges and optimize product performance.
- Lead customer-facing technical discussions, presentations, and site visits with minimal supervision.
- Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Quality, Regulatory, Operations, Manufacturing, and other stakeholders to support formulation initiatives.
- Participate in engineering change orders (ECOs), ingredient substitutions, and formulation improvements to drive continuous improvement efforts.
- Provide technical onboarding, training, and mentorship to R&D team members.
- Serve as an internal subject matter expert and represent R&D in cross-functional meetings and onboarding activities.
- Provide temporary support for formulation approvals or project acceptance activities as directed by the R&D Manager to ensure business continuity.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, or a related scientific field preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the food industry in a scientific role, or minimum of 7 years of experience in food or dietary supplement formulation within a food or supplement manufacturing environment.
- Advanced expertise in formulation design; experience with production blending and process flow is preferred.
- Strong understanding of formulation scalability and manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
- Experience interpreting work orders, technical documentation, and product specifications.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills, including stoichiometric calculations and scale-up processes.
- Ability to operate standard wet chemistry laboratory equipment, including laboratory scales.
- Proven ability to independently manage complex projects and collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and customer-facing technical skills.
- Light travel required, including customer site visits as needed.
- Ability to view a computer screen and perform computer-based work for extended periods.
- Ability to adjust work schedules as business needs require.
- Ability to work in laboratory and manufacturing environments as necessary to support formulation development and scale-up activities
