Job Description
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve CNC setup strategies for complex precision-machined components.
- Design practical tooling, fixturing, and workholding solutions for:
- 3-Axis Milling
- 3+2 Milling
- 4-Axis Milling
- 5-Axis Milling
- Support setup planning and process development for basic CNC turning operations.
- Analyze engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, materials, tolerances, and machine capabilities to determine the most efficient machining approach.
- Lead setup prove-outs and troubleshoot tooling, fixturing, workholding, and machining challenges.
- Improve process stability, setup repeatability, cycle efficiency, and first-pass yield.
- Develop detailed setup sheets, tooling lists, fixture documentation, and work instructions for production machinists.
- Collaborate with CNC programmers, machinists, engineering, and quality personnel to ensure successful production execution.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in machining methods, tooling strategies, and manufacturing processes.
- Support new product introduction and process development from prototype through production.
- Extensive hands-on experience in CNC setup, tooling, fixturing, and manufacturing applications engineering.
- Proven expertise setting up:
- 3-Axis CNC Mills
- 3+2 CNC Mills
- 4-Axis CNC Mills
- 5-Axis CNC Mills
- Experience with basic CNC lathe setup and process planning.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Workholding systems
- Fixture design principles
- Tool selection
- Tool stick-out optimization
- Machine rigidity
- Chatter reduction
- Chip evacuation
- Datum strategies
- Tight-tolerance machining
- Excellent blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills.
- Ability to create detailed setup documentation that enables consistent production without ambiguity.
- Experience working in a precision machining or high-mix job shop environment.
- Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience working in an AS9100-certified aerospace manufacturing environment.
- Experience supporting complex, tight-tolerance precision machining operations.
- Familiarity with modern CAM software, including:
- Mastercam 2026
- Fusion 360 (latest version)
- Camplete 2026
- CAM Assist 2.0
- Working knowledge of SolidWorks 2025 is beneficial. (Part modeling and final CAD design are completed by engineering; this role focuses on manufacturing process planning and machining execution.)
